The History behind the word
the word phobia comes from the Greek language. the Greek word, 'phobo," which means "irrational fear."
researching phobias was interesting, i'll say that. I changed my original plan for this post after completing the post because, well, this is just too interesting. and please know, i'm not making fun. I have such an irrational fear of heights (don't tell anyone, I keep it to myself), that I have dreams about standing on the edge. the edge of what? anything. a mountain, a building, a rope, a small hill, a ladder. ha. really...anything. acrophobia, it's called, affects 3-6% of people. but did you know there is a whole category of phobias related to sex? all things related to sex! there are too many to list here. so let's look at some of the more interesting sexual phobias known to man. and woman. here we go...
phobias
19.2 million u.s. adults suffer from a phobia--affecting their mental and physical health in a significant way. the most surprising to me?! Gnomophobia--the fear of garden gnomes, can you believe it?!
so what do you think? Were any of these a surprise to you? I've got to say, all of them were to me! what's the most shocking? Are there any others that you find interesting? Share them in the comments! We'd love to see :) thanks for stopping by and learning about some of the most interesting phobias. until next time...
