My dream lunch: one hour with the lady and the lamp

If I Could Have Lunch with Anyone in the World

Given the chance to sit down for lunch with anyone, past or present, my choice would be Florence Nightingale. As a nurse, I deeply admire her groundbreaking contributions to modern healthcare and her dedication to improving patient care. plus, there's an adult topic that I just have to know the truth behind.

It would be incredible to pick her brain about her experiences, innovations, and challenges during the Crimean War, where she redefined the role of nursing. I’d love to hear her insights on leadership, compassion, and the enduring legacy of her work, which continues to inspire medical professionals around the globe. Sharing a meal with such a visionary would not only be a privilege but also an unforgettable opportunity to learn from the very foundation of my profession.

if I were to be given the opportunity, here are some of the questions I think i'd ask:

My questions for Florence. adult questions ahead!

Did you ever regret your decision to care for the soldiers of your time?

"There were times I was physically hurting from the work I was doing, but overall, no..."

she might say. Or maybe she'd cuss about the soldiers and say it's her biggest regret!

If you could've done anything else, what would you have done?

"I wouldn't do anything else in the world, even if you paid me,"

she might say. Or she might say it was too much responsibility. Maybe she wishes she stayed at home.

Did you know that your work in caring for others would influence the medical world for centuries to come?

"OBVI, young lady!"

she might say. Or something more modest. In my mind she's a firecracker.

Is there anything in our current medical practice that you disagree with?

"I think it's a shame how soon you all kick people out of the hospital after surgery or an injury/illness!"

I bet she'd actually say this. Don't get me started on this one.

Last but not least, and go find your mom if you're not an adult...is it true you 'took care' of the soldiers in more than just nursing???

I imagine so many things here. We'll just leave it to the imagination. I so wish I could ask her this question. Have y'all heard this too? I really mean no disrespect. It's just what I've heard!

who would your dream lunch date be with?

You know those people that have their mind in the gutter? hopefully I won't scare any of you away, but that's me! I have needed to ask that last question since as long as I can remember. But all jokes aside, it would truly be an honor to interview, visit with, and learn from such an important figure in the nursing community. The knowledge, experience, and passion she has brought to the field has undoubtedly inspired countless individuals and shaped the future of nursing. Having the opportunity to hear her insights firsthand would not only be a privilege but also a chance to gain invaluable lessons that could benefit both aspiring and seasoned professionals. her selfless dedication serves as a reminder of the critical role nurses play in healthcare and the immense impact one individual can have on an entire profession. it helps contribute to my personal pride in my profession.
