Written Tutorial

I told my husband today--it's a good thing we're not in high school and I don't care about being a cool kid. I am such a nerd, y'all. I was really excited to put together this blog post. I ended a bit disappointed in how my gnome turned out with my shaky hands, but I guess at least I can currently hold the pencil. It's the little things we take for granted until they're taken away.

Anyway, so let's start with a list of supplies:

  • paper
  • pencil
  • colored pencils/crayons/markers
  • patience with yourself!

So I've got this here several ways. In video, in image form, and now in writing. I want to start by giving credit where credit is due, and that's to artprojectsforkids.org--where I got the drawn tutorial you see below/to the left. Now onto the steps:

  1. draw a circle for the button nose
  2. draw a hat, drooped over the nose and coming to a point, and with stripes
  3. draw a zig zag pattern, coming down from both sides of the hat, for its beard
  4. draw the dress coming down from the beard, in a sort of incomplete right-side-up triangle
  5. draw two little legs, then socks in a sort of donut shape around the legs, and shoes coming directly off the socks
  6. draw two little arms (the right one curved in front of the belly and the left one dangling straight down) and two little hands (half circles)
  7. draw a heart inside the right hand/arm, as if the gnome is holding it close, like a baby. Erase the marks from behind the heart and arm/hand (from the beard and dress, for example)
  8. color it all in! VOILA!

So for those of you who maybe listened without volume, forgive my sloppiness. With these tremors I have, I'm lucky I can half draw today. Most days I can't use a fork, some days I can't hold my coffee, and I definitely can't paint my nails--but I do have another specialist appointment tomorrow! Wish me luck!

So I hope your gnomes turned out amazing! Maybe we'll do this every so often with the various types of gnomes/holidays. You can take the info back to your kids--that at least makes you not a nerd!

Thanks for watching/reading/playing today. It was fun. Until next time...
